Hello!

I’m Emma Banks, a writer and maker living in Brooklyn. I started “E”mail because I wanted a place to keep track of what I’m working on — writing, sewing, and otherwise. When friends and family ask me, What’s it like being a freelancer these days? (lol), hopefully this serves as a partial answer.

Remember those long, typed out notes that moms would insert into holiday cards? Before texting and cheap long-distance calls were a thing, we’d receive dozens of annual updates from family friends about what their kids, cousins, parents, etcetera were up to — all typed out and folded neatly into a Christmas card. I devoured these notes like mini memoirs — in between lines about promotions and proposals and cross-country moves, they contained the magical, mundane moments that make up a life. Much like the blogs that eventually replaced them, these letters were a window into the lives of a vast network that I, as a child, had only a meager understanding of. I hope “E”mail can serve a similar purpose for my friends and family, and perhaps even some strangers, too.

Stay up-to-date

“E”mail isn’t on a schedule. Dispatches are infrequent, and the best way to make sure you don’t miss one is to simply subscribe.
